In a short period of years, SOILWORKs increasing success has evolved from their initial status of a diminutive, yet promising Swedish extreme melodic metal band to their present position as one of the most popular and audacious entities to have explored new musical territories. Meticulously developing swift progressions, SOILWORK establishes sounds without limits, outranking any competition and setting an untouchable musical standard. Living up to the best selling Natural Born Chaos and the highly successful Figure Number Five, SOILWORK instantly cracked the Billboard Heatseekers chart and were presented as One of The 25 Most Important Bands In Metal by Alternative Press magazine. These expeditious individuals have already conquered the OZZFEST 2005 second stage in support of their latest album, Stabbing The Drama, which continues the unique/innate balance of heaviness, powerfully constructed harmonies, and uplifting compositions that vividly displays SOILWORKs musical growth.

SOILWORK, which is not a reference to cultivation, rather working their way up from the ground, have followed in the footsteps of countrymen prodigies like In Flames, Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity and The Haunted. Debuting in 1997 with the five-track demo, In Dreams We Fall Into The Eternal Lake, SOILWORK commenced with four individuals, later expanding members prior to their next release, Steelbath Suicide. SOILWORK caused an intense and major positive stir in the metal underground. Undergoing a small line-up change, the band once again re-entered Studio Fredman, and created The Chainheart Machine, one of the years most intense and solid releases to surface. A majority of the succession is due to the exploration of dynamic structures, which not only showed musical growth, but also gave the necessary elements to commence the sculpting of the SOILWORK sound.

After the completion of the recording process, A Predators Portrait, SOILWORKs third album hit the metal scene with ferocity, capitalizing on the strengths and diverse musicianship of the band and taking fans and critics by surprise. Continuing to smash metal boundaries through chaos delivered with high-speed intensity, SOILWORKs expanded sound set their music apart from the rest of the Swedish contingent, opening their music to a wider prospective audience. The highlight for the band in that same year had been the performance at Wacken Open Air Festival in front of more than 20,000 fans and their American debut at the Milwaukee Metalfest.

Hitting a potent blend of aggression and melody, SOILWORK stepped it up like pros for their critically acclaimed, Natural Born Chaos. Although there was a definite change in their style due to a blending of electronically digitized songs, with the help of Strapping Young Lads frontman and producer Devin Townsend (Stuck Mojo, Lamb of God), SOILWORKs crowning point reached its peak. This album saw the introduction of frontman Bjorns staggering performance, ranging from the thrashy vocals he established on previous works, to the harmonic arrays of choral stability. Bjrn now had the talent, ability, dexterity and confidence to take SOILWORKs music into any direction. This highly successful release landed the bands first American tour supporting Hypocrisy, Killswitch Engage and Scar Culture.

In the following year, Figure Number Five, the album that advanced the band to new levels brought SOILWORK in the forefront of the metal scene, leading to two more massive American tours with packages that included bands such as Chimaira, In Flames, As I Lay Dying and Bleeding Through.

SOILWORK have been an early and masterful incarnation that has taken modernized metal to the next level, generating a new genre of prolific music and surpassing all expectations. Even the legendary metal god Rob Halford (Judas Priest) declared them as A band to watch for in the new metal millennium! With seven years and six albums behind them, SOILWORK have accomplished to create a distinctive sound in metal, effectively forming a dedicated fanbase with each successive release and displaying the accomplishments of a rigorous and persistently devoted band, proving to be living embodiment that a propitious act could turn out to modernize the face of music.
